Dog Fetch Toys Give Your Dog a Classic Workout

Dog fetch toys are essential buys for all dog owners because fetch play stimulates your dog and lets it release its energy in a positive way. It also strengthens the bond between you and your dog as you tell your dog to fetch. It engages your dog in the task of pleasing you as it fulfills your command. Try bouncing a fetch ball to give your dog an extra workout. A tired and worn-out dog is much less likely to cause mischief, which is excellent for you and your dog. Another great reason for fetch play is the fact that most of the work is done by the dog which allows for longer play sessions and a happier, more tired-out dog.

What Breeds Are Good with Dog Fetch Toys?

Most dogs retrieve a thrown object instinctively, while some excel at fetching and enjoy it more than others. Labradors and Golden Retrievers exhibit strong fetching instincts. Beagles and Greyhound also do well with their tracking and chasing instincts. Border Collie and German Shepherd are great for fetching with their herding instincts and high trainability. Almost all dogs enjoy an excellent fetch toy but remember that there are always exceptions. Don’t be surprised if your dog sits there wagging its tail, looking at the ball you just threw, then look up at you as if saying: “great throw!”.

Dog Fetch Toy Types

Sticks – You can pick one up during a walk or buy one made specifically to be a fetch toy. Wood naturally floats, which allows you to work on your dog’s swimming skills if there is a body of water nearby.

Balls – A fetch ball’s flexible size, weight, and bouncing feature make it a fantastic fetching option. Remember that it is larger than sticks and you should pick them according to your dog’s jaw size.

Frisbee – It flies gracefully through the air allowing your dog to track it much easier than a small ball. They even slow down before landing to ensure your dog achieves that perfect catch. Frisbees take a bit more time to master the throw than other fetch toys so be patient and practice.

Launchers – These dog ball launchers usually come in the shape of a toy gun and normally launch fetch balls. Their mechanical nature means that they are prone to breakage. A longer-lasting alternative is a stick designed to help you throw balls further with less effort. These throwing sticks could take some time to get used to so exercise patience and stick with it.
